Resonate Music Award Launched
The biggest constrain for a band in India while cutting an album is money. While a handful of professional acts are signed to record labels most bands in India have followed the independent path, funding their albums out of their own pocket and applying rather naive marketing tactics to distribute their record. Deepak Rao (ex-front man of Bangalore based band Shrapnel) has launched a unique project to remove these everlasting woes of Indian bands.
The Resonate Awards. The winner of which gets a music scholarship and a chance to record at one of Bangalore’s best equipped music studios under the guidance of four music stalwarts from across the country. Joining hands with Deepak on this project are Sahil Makhija a.k.a. Demonstealer. The brains behind Demonstealer Records, a label that has provided a platform to some of the best metal acts in the country. Nolan Lewis, front man of Bangalore based melodic metal band Kryptos, an internationally recognized act and Chris Avinash, an industry aficionado who will be in helm of the production work.
Any non-professional band (solo artists too) is eligible for this award as long as they are serious about their music and want to take that extra-step.
As an award, Resonate is oblivious to trends like preliminary stages, playing the finals in front of a panel of judges and voting. It’s purely based on how good the original compositions sound. The participants have to send in three good quality mp3’, answer a few questions related to them and come up with a marketing policy for the album that they will be recording if they are chosen as the winner. The participants can submit even a single track but three songs would give the judges a better understanding of the music, the chances of winning double as well.
Though the award will not cover the production costs of physical CD’S and the band or artist will have to arrange for travel and accommodation in Bangalore (in case they are from outer station) Resonate guarantees the winner a recorded, mixed and mastered album and the musical and marketing guidance of some India’s most accomplished musicians.
The last date of entry submissions have just been extended from August 20th to September 1st and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
With entries pouring in from all over the country, some of the best media partners in place and a gear expansion plan for every participant guranteed, Deepak Rao and his team of stalwarts are all set to make their presence felt in an industry that has been on a steady rise now for over a decade.
The best part of this award, the band remains in control of the music and their musical activities. No major label corporate sellout campaign. Let the best resonate.
