Hailing from the not so metal friendly city of Hyderabad, Sledge have done a hard hitting job of stamping their name across the metal scene in India.

Winning prestigious competitions like the Castrol Garage Rock and shocking metal heads around the nation with a major label release of their debut album Desert Of Souls , Sledge proved that their monstrous riffs, demolition of the drums and doom laced vocals are ready to stand the test of time.

With an inspiring, liberating sound, this death/thrash metal quintet have just released their second self-produced record VanQuish .

Lyrically the band is on a politically charged angst ridden overdrive. A characteristic of Sledge that has never gone unnoticed. Most of the tracks in this album are about the dismal state of politics, lawlessness, social disorder, apathy, terrorism and violence in the name of religion. The Mumbai terror attacks being the bands personal inspiration.

The title track of the album ‘VanQuish’ deals with the laid back attitude of people towards violence. Lead singer Nitin screams his way through the song and urges people to move ahead only after making a stand against organized violence.

Another similarly structured track from the album ‘Theatre Of War’ centers around the fact that some regions of the world are forever war torn. Sledge’s question is simple –Are the people of these regions so used to the hardships of war that they have started to resent peace?

This ten track record has been in production since 2007. Guitarist Prabhu being the brains behind this record is responsible for the composition of most of the tracks with his fellow band members chipping in at every juncture.

For a self –produced record, the production quality is worth a nod. As a band Sledge has evolved over the past few years, changing their sound, song writing, incorporating even Indian rhythm elements in their music and above all gigging more frequently to continuously entertain their fans. Steady as they might sound, Sledge have done a great job in pushing themselves from being just another metal band to an act who are outspoken, involved, on your face and fearless.

Sledge, have announced their anthems in the house of Indian Rock. Anthems bound by a sound that is unique only to this band that picked up guitars instead of guns.

With this album Sledge, will look at VanQuishing all their critics and paving a path towards the International metal circuit.

For an album that was recorded in a very short span of time, the result couldn’t have been any better.

Great to see Sladge release their second album. I am still a proud owner of a cassette of ‘Desert of Souls’, my first Indian metal album!
The songs on this album sound great, the riffs and solos are killer. This is a great throwback to old school thrash metal. The drums do sound a bit tinny, though.
Their live shows are HEAVY…and they have a regular fan following in Hyd, given that they gig quite often.
