Acquired Funk Syndrome

Band Lineup:

Bruce Drummond Fali Damania Rushad Sandy

Like all good things in this world, Acquired Funk Syndrome is a product of insanity. And some funk. When 4 guys from the quiet town of Pune had their share of mainstream metal and couldn’t take run off the mill classic rock bands any more they decided to funk up things on their own and started experimenting with new sounds with a strong drum bass section. Hours of jamming later, their experiment resulted into what is now popularly known as the funk syndrome. Once they got their act right, they stormed into the underground scene and there’s been no looking back.

After playing at their hometown, the guys hit Bombay with a couple of shows at razz which won them excellent reviews … being described as one of the “most unique and fresh sound to emerge from India”. Within a months time, they were chosen to compete with bands from all over India at Independence Rock, the most prestigious rock show in the country. AFS won Independence Rock marking the beginning of what has been a very successful season for the band.

A month from then, AFS bagged IIT Delhi’s “Blitzkrieg 2002” competing with 18 bands from all over the country. The most talked about part of AFS, their stage act won them the best vocalist award as well. They took part at the biggest of em all, IIT Bombay’s Livewire and won the Best band, Best Original (This Side), Best Drummer, Best Bassist and shared the Best Guitarist and Best Vocalist awards. They have made their presence felt in prominent gigs like “Rock For Peace” (Bangalore), Alive (Pune) and Tremors (Bombay). They have headlined the Sydenham college, Sophiyas, Fergusson college fest among others.Their original “This Side” will be featured in a compilation by Hangar Records scheduled for release in 2003. Another original “12 Years” will be featured in Great Indian Rock – 7, the annual release by RSJ records. AFS is one of the 12 chosen bands who will compete at GIR-7. Feb of 2003, AFS toured with Mumbai band Zero playing at Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Rourkee.

The band hired a manager and signed on Marzaban, who has previously worked with Agni and other big names of Indian rock as their official and exclusive Sound Technician. The band looks at the stage act as one of the most important things in a live show and actively works on surprising the audience at every single show.

The band comprises of Bruce Drummond on Vocals who is currently rated as one of the best front man. Rushad Mistry, 21 year old with a thing for slapping his 5 string bass. Fali Damania on guitars, who brings in the classic rock influences and thus creates a feel based atmosphere for their groove laden sound. Sandy, 18 year old on drums provides a solid backbone. Fali also plays the role of a Rhytmn Guitarist for Agni while Sandy and Rushad comprise “GrooveGames”, their side project with various other musicians.
